Since 2000 Bunnell Street Arts Center has sponsored an independent Artists in Schools program (AIS) following the trademark model set forth by the Alaska State Council on the Arts (AKSCA). Bunnell’s AIS program places professionally trained Teaching Artists approved by AKSCA in K–12 classrooms for artist residencies in Kenai Peninsula Borough School District (KPBSD) schools. This program supports school goals, nurtures youth, and fosters professionalism for Teaching Artists.  

Artists interested in teaching in the Artist in Schools program are encouraged to contact Bunnell Street Arts Center  Bunnell collaborates with AKSCA to train Teach Artists, in best practices, AIS protocols, cultural competency, lesson planning which elevates Kenai Peninsula Borough School District Art Standards.

Passages Alaska Curriculum is a new arts-integrated, Indigenized, Alaska Studies Curriculum that invites students to explore Alaska’s histories, cultures and contemporary identities and create artistic expresions of family and community that acknowledge and celebrate their own lived experiences as integral parts of Alaska’s unfolding history.
