Bunnell’s January local artist in residence, Mandy Bernard, will exhibit her installation during the month of February.
“As a textile artist and land conservationist, I translate inspiration of shape, color, and texture from my time spent in the field into illustration and silkscreen. I often repeat these elements of Alaska’s wild landscape through pattern, reflecting my desire for permanence and continuity in the natural world.
For this residency, I’ve focused on my personal connection to place and evaluated recurring themes of community and belonging. With support and assistance from organizations and residents of Homer, I’ve spent the month collecting organic elements from the Kachemak Bay environment. As an adaptation of my typical artistic processes, I’ve created a large-scale pattern installation of objects from our landscape. These biotic patterns are accompanied by serigraph prints with subjects of analogous significance. ”
