Christine Byl & Sara Tabbert, October 30, 2020
Christine Byl is the author of Dirt Work: An Education in the Woods, a book about trail crews, tools, wildness, gender, and labor. It was shortlisted for the 2014 Willa Award in nonfiction. Her fiction and essays have appeared in Glimmer Train Stories, The Sun, Crazyhorse and Brevity, among other journals and anthologies. She has made her living as a professional trailbuilder for the past 24 years. She lives in Interior Alaska with her family and spends as much time as possible exploring wild places by foot, bike, skis, boat and dogs.
Sara Tabbert is a printmaker and mixed media artist from Fairbanks, Alaska. With an MFA in printmaking from University of Nebraska-Lincoln, her love of woodblock printing has led to the creation of carved, painted wooden panels. In addition to smaller work, Tabbert’s large-scale public art commissions can be found throughout Alaska. Her work is housed in public collections through the state and far beyond. In early 2020, the Alaska State Museum presented a solo exhibit of her recent work.
