CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) shares have become a popular way for consumers to buy seasonal food directly from local farmers. Inspired by a model developed by Springboard for the Arts and adopted nationally, Bunnell’s Board of Directors has created a buy-direct, buy-local endeavor to support local artists and collectors. Bunnell’s CSA — Community Supported Art — program is an exciting new board-led model that supports artists in the creation of new work and establishes relationships between collectors and artists.
30 shares are available to the public for the 2018 season. This year’s CSA asks shareholders to invest $365 ($1 a day!) while nine artists create small artworks. Each shareholder receives nine pieces of original Alaska art, and each artist connects with 30 new collectors. 2018 artists are all Bunnell board members who are donating their artworks in this initial year to create seed money for future CSA artist stipends. The Board envisions an annual application period and jury process to choose artists for inclusion in future CSA seasons.
Shares are available to purchase here June 1, and available for pick up on August 18.
