During this AIS unit artist Debbie Piper taught ceramics at West Homer Elementary School to third (paper-mache), fourth (abstract sculptures), fifth (Calder-style mobiles) and sixth (ceramic-imaginary animals) graders.
Excerpt form Artist final report: “On the final day of the residency, students participated in a Gallery Walk. Each child’s sculpture along with their Artist Statement was on display for all to see. The community installation of an orca whale’s tale surrounded by splashing water was unveiled for the first time at the exhibit. Mixed grade level groups flowed through the 16 stations of exhibit, following an “Eye Spy” handout that provided direction and discussion topics as they enjoyed the creations made by their peers.”
