Drew Michael, August 2014
Drew Michael, August exhibit 2014
Drew Michael, mask-carver and installation artist. Anchorage-based, Drew Michael is of Yu’pik and Inupiaq origin. Michael explores his identity as a twin survivor of pre-mature birth, foster care and adoption to an Alaskan family through themes of hybridity and mixed media in his contemporary carved and assembled style. He expresses an emotional, ironic and adventurous spirit in his use of mixed media, fine craftsmanship and individual style. Although not yet thirty years old, his work is already included in the Anchorage Museum and the State Museum.
