Elizabeth Ware, AIS at Kaleidoscope School, March 2017

"It was a pleasure to conduct this two-week residency at Kaleidoscope. I worked with a student population of approximately 240 K-5th graders. The teachers were very welcoming and helpful in class management. I used Shakespeare as a catalyst to teach lessons in theatrical practice. The overriding theme was taken from Hamlet’s Advice to the Players: 'Suit the action to the word, the word to the action.'

Another teacher shared a sweet story about one of her 4th grade boys. She said he was always quiet in class, and rarely participated in group projects. When I was telling them the story of Puck and the Fairies from A Midsummer Night’s Dream, he jumped up and said 'I know that book! It’s over there on the shelf.' After the session, he took me over to the shelf to show me the graphic novel of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. He proved to be one of my most reliable performers!
I remain very grateful to the Bunnell Street Art Center for your continued support and dedication to arts education. Thank you!" -Elizabeth Ware Final Report, excerpts
