Cyanotype Workshop with Jenny Irene Miller, 1-5pm
April 23, 2023 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
During the month of April, Bunnell Street Arts Center welcomes artist in residence Jenny Irene Miller, an Inupiaq artist from Dena’ina Ełnena, Anchorage, Alaska. While in residence Jenny will exhibit work, create new work and host a cyanotype workshop.
“I’m an artist who uses photography. My larger portfolio also includes works made with sound, video, and sculpture. My art practice is grounded in all of this: place, storytelling, Indigeneity, queerness, and familial and community relations. Photography provides a space for me to practice a form of careful observation that runs deep in the Inupiaq culture I come from. My art practice considers photography’s ability to share stories, to recall people and memories, and how it has been used as a weapon in the colonial project.”
During the residency Jenny will work with familial archival photographs featuring Inupiat family members, remixed by transforming them into negatives to be printed on fabric as cyanotype photographs, circling around themes of support and connection, relating to protection.
Jenny will offer two independent cyanotype workshops, April 16 and 23 from 1 to 5 pm encouraging participation by LGBTQ2+ youth, youth from the Rec Room, Alaska Native youth, and Indigenous women in recovery.
Workshop is $35, Register here, however if you’d like to waive the registration fee please call 907.235.2662 or email email@example.com.
