Dramatic Reading: Tryhard

Join us on Wednesday, September 13th, 730-8:30 for a dramatic reading of Tryhard by Emily Elyse Everett and directed by Kate Rich, at Bunnell Street Arts Center, $10 donation suggested at the door. 

New York’s Playwright, Emily Elyse Everett offers up her new play, Tryhard, read by Homer, Alaska actors. Enjoy a funny, emotional play about friendship, coming home, and the awkwardness of trying to share grief. A woman desperate to do good returns to her Pacific Northwest town to visit her childhood friend who has been struck by an unexpected tragedy.

EMILY ELYSE EVERETT is a writer and actor living in New York. is a writer and actor living in New York. In her work, she is interested in the mysterious, bizarre, dark, magical, and absurd. With deep tenderness and sharp wit, she explores the complexity of human morality, womanhood, and the psychological unraveling of the contemporary world. Emily was awarded Synecdoche Works’ 2022 Frank Moffett Mosier Fellowship for Works in Heightened Language and the winning prize for her play Strange and Splendid. She was a Semifinalist for the Lanford Wilson New American Play Festival and a Winner of the Players Club of Swarthmore New Play Festival for her play Serenity. Originally from Portland, Oregon, Emily has a BA from Brown University and is a Playwriting MFA candidate at Columbia University.

KATE RICH, DIRECTOR  is a theater collaborator and emerging playwright who hosts “New Plays Aloud,” a play-reading series designed to introduce contemporary scripts to the Homer community. Kate participates as an actor and playwright in the annual Valdez Theatre Conference in Valdez, Alaska, where she finds scripts for “New Plays Aloud,” and where several of her full-length plays have been workshopped. Her recent one-act drama about teen mental illness, “The Night Animals” was produced by Pier One Theater in July 2022. Kate is excited to share Emily Elyse Everett’s “Tryhard,” a stand-out favorite at this year’s Valdez Theatre Conference.
