PechaKucha at The Nave, in Anchorage

March 9 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

$10 – $30

Join us for a PechaKucha presentation featuring eight Anchorage storytellers during Spenard’s 2nd Saturday Art Walk on Saturday, March 9th, 7pm at The Nave. Sliding-scale admission $10 – $30, tickets available through Bunnell Street Arts Center.

The PechaKucha 20×20 presentation format is a slide show of 20 images, each self-advancing every 20 seconds. It’s non-stop, giving each presenter 400 seconds to tell their story with visuals guiding the way. Eight Anchorage presenters will share their strategies to create community and connection through their passion in this wonderful night of live storytelling.

Confessions of a Showgirl – How performance artist Amy Kondi found her voice and took back her power through dance and burlesque.

Share The Load – Community-based artist Myesha Callahan Freet calls for mothers to unload what they are attached to and what they can detach from.

Golden Delicious, Glamour Clown – Bearded drag artist Brooks Banker shares a glimpse of their journey from Vermont country-mouse to celebrated, world renowned, inspirational glamour clown.

Paracosmic Maps & the Frozen North – New media artist Nathan Shafer shares imaginary worlds and the trope of the “Great Frozen North.”

The Power of Home Funerals – Death doula Julie Raymond-Yakoubian considers the power of family-directed death care and home funerals.

The Power of Affinity – 2022 Ride for Racial Justice ambassador Oliviah Franke recounts how they have helped to create BIPOC cycling spaces in Alaska.

The Law of Generosity – Duke Russell reaffirms the fundamental principles of generosity, not unlike the law of gravity or other laws in the physical world.

This program is presented in partnership with The Nave and is made possible with a Helen Walker grant from the Alaska State Council on the Arts and the generous sponsorship of Uncle Herb’s.
