Gail Baker at Fireweed Academy, March/April 2020

Fireweed Academy hosted Artist Gail Baker for a mask making project. The students started by drawing an idea of what they wanted to create followed by a one-on-one brainstorming session on how to translate their sketch into a 3-d form. Next, building with cardboard and masking tape on purchased face forms followed by paper mache. Once masks were dry, they were painted then finished by embellishing with a variety of fun materials and hot glue! The completed masks were hung on fishing net at KBay Cafe. Parents and teachers jumped in to help cover the walls with 120 colorful, wild, imaginative, beautiful, animal masks.
