BUNNELL STREET ARTS CENTER WELCOMES JESSE EGNER, ARTIST IN RESIDENCE, APRIL 2022
Jesse Egner, a multidisciplinary video, photography and performance artist creates new work and invites collaboration from the Homer community from April 1 -30th
Homer, Alaska, April 1 – 30 — Jesse Egner is a New York-based artist working primarily with photography and video. Often taking the form of playful and absurd portraiture of himself and other individuals, his work explores themes of queerness, disidentification, queer corporeality, and the uncanny. Egner was born in 1993 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania and is currently based in Brooklyn, New York. He received his BA from Millersville University of Pennsylvania and his MFA from Parsons School of Design. Jesse will have half of the exhibit space; fellow resident artist, Nathan Hall, a composer and visual artist will build a simultaneous exhibition of his work, in the other half of the gallery.
Jesse will hold open studios on Mondays 12-5 pm and Wednesdays 5 to 8 pm throughout the month, and host an outdoor cyanotype workshop on Saturday, April 16. A closing reception for Jesse and Nathan will be on Thursday, April 28, 6 to 8 pm.
“My photographic process is very spontaneous, playful, and collaborative. During this residency, I will collaboratively make photographs within the queer community of Homer, as well as continue my own self-portraitature work highlighting the visual interactions between my non-normative body and my environment. Additionally, I will continue experimentation with new media of video, performance, and installation.”
Bunnell Street Arts Center’s Artist in Residence (AIR) features Alaska, national and international artists for residencies of varying lengths, from one week to one month. The program has evolved with support from Rasmuson Foundation, US Artists, Homer Foundation, ArtPlace America and the National Endowment for the Arts. Today, it is primarily supported by private donors, foundation grants, and application fees.
