Resolution to accept Tuyanitun, adopted by City of Homer September 15, 2020

Last fall Nichiłt’ana, Ninilchik Village Tribe, approved a sculpture design by tribal member, Argent Kvasnikoff for Tuyanitun. Last summer the City approved a gift of sculpture for Bishops Beach Park from Bunnell Street Arts Center.  The sculpture, Tuyanitun was conceived in 2019 by Argent Kvasnikoff,  with the intention of making the process of land acknowledgment learning visible and broadly accessible to the surrounding community. Tuyanitun features Dena’ina history, language and wayfinding techniques that are embedded in this landscape. Elevating the Indigenous presence in this area and working in partnership with the City, Ninilchik Village Tribe and Islands and Ocean Visitors Center to do this work creates the true value of public art as a process of engagement and learning with our community. Resolution 20-079 here.
